Situated on the Western Ghats of Karnataka, 1100 meters above
sea level, away from the hustle bustle of the Bangalore city, Kadagu
that is also called Coorg is embraced with mountains and coffee
plantations. The land of coffee, hills and waterfalls, Kodagu
provides a bewitching view of nature.
One can really explore nature in the arms of mountains that embrace
Coorg! The exotic milieu of nature is also called the Scotland of
India. Kodau offers a different facet of India - beautiful, green
and exciting. It is the land of coffee bushes standing along
cardamom fields covered with white and purple blossoms, old silver
oak trees laden with huge hives, and of sturdy handsome people
called the Coorgis who charm with their hospitality and cuisine,
their intriguing customs and the reverence with which they worship
their river, the Cauvery.
Places of Interest:
Makikeri Fort :
A 19th century fort, it now houses a temple, a chapel, the prison,
a small museum and assorted government offices. Golf courses
Madikeri and Pollibetta have golf courses; Makikeri courses being a
nine hole one.
Nagara hole National Park:
A well maintained game sanctuaries in south India. Elephant,
spotted deer, sambar, bison, chital Jeep are mostly seen. Elephant
rides available for jungle safari.
Harangi:
Situated in north Kodagu, it is a beautiful reservoir and ideal for
weekend or short holiday staying at the guest house. The placid
water surface is good for quiet water sports.
Accessibility:
Kodagu is situated in Karnataka without an inch of rail track or
airway. The only way to reach Kodau is by road. Many buses operated
by SKRTC. Pass through Makikeri enroute to Mangalore. KSTDC
organizes regular package tours.
